PAW-5 Alluvial well located just below PRS-2 at the Golden Eagle Mine <br /> enterance. Established to gather baseline data above the Golden Eagle <br /> Mine and monitor quantity and quality of water in the alluvium below the <br /> New Elk Mine. <br /> PAW-6 Alluvial well located adjacent to PRS-3. Established to monitor mine <br /> discharge, existing coal refuse and other potential effects of mining <br /> below the Golden Eagle Mine. <br /> CCAW-1 Alluvial well located in the Ciruela Canyon Alluvium at the mouth of <br /> Ciruela Canyon. Established to monitor potential effects of Golden <br /> Eagle mining and surface facilities activities in the canyon (including <br /> refuse disposal. <br /> ACAW-1 Alluvial well located in the Apache Canyon Alluvium at the mouth of <br /> Apache Canyon. Established to monitor potential effects of secondary <br /> or retreat mining. <br /> Contained in the following sections is a description of the methods and results for <br /> the 1985 water year monitoring activities conducted at the New Elk and Golden Eagle <br /> Mine sites. <br /> 2.0 MONITORING METHODS <br /> 2.1 Surface Water <br /> Monthly surface water samplings were conducted at each of the seven designated <br /> stations PRS-I, PRS-2, PRS-3, MDNE-1, MDGE-I, CCS-1 and CCS-2 during the last week <br /> of each month. Quarterly surface water samplings were conducted at each of the four <br /> designated stations SCF-I, ACF-1, MDNE-1 and MDGE-1 during the last week of <br /> February, May, August and November. Annual water quality sampling was conducted <br /> during November for each station. <br /> -6- <br />
