A spill prevention control plan has been prepared and can be implemented as
situations arise. Generally, the plan calls for containing any potential spills (i.e., oil,
diesel fuel, gasoline, etc.) and preventing the material from contaminating surface and/or
ground water.
Reclamation plans have been developed to restore surface lands and drainage.
These plans are discussed in detail in the 1981 mine permit application.
A survey of all water users of both surface and ground water has been made and an
assessment of potential impacts completed. This information is contained in the 1981
mine permit application and Appendix 5 of this report.
Monitoring of area hydrologic functions will continue at the two mines. This is an
important mitigative measure because it provides for identification of potential impacts
and corrective actions to be taken.
5.0 MONITORING PROGRAMS FOR 1986
Surface and ground water sampling to be conducted during 1986 will be similar to
that of 1985. Because of increased activity both underground and on the surface,
monthly, quarterly and annual data will be gathered at the mines and adjacent areas. This
data will be used to further assess potential impacts of mine operations and effects on the
existing hydrologic balance. Proposed stations and parameters to be monitored are
included below. During 1986 WFC may find it necessary to further modify this program.
In this event, WFC will notify the Division in writing.
Results from the 1985 water year indicate many of the water quality parameters to
be near or below the detection limits. Those parameters which will be continued during
the 1986 program and those which will be discontinued are presented in Table 4.
-27-
