2. 0 MONITORING METHODS <br /> 2 . 1 Surface Water <br /> Monthly surface water samplings were conducted at each <br /> of the eight designated stations PRS-1, PRS-2, PRS-3, MDNE-1, MDGE-1, <br /> CCS -1 , CCS-2 and West Portal during the last week of each month. <br /> Expanded water chemistry was sampled quarterly at surface water <br /> stations MDNE-1, MDGE-1, CCS-1 and CCS-2. Quarterly samples were taken <br /> in February, May, August and November. The November sampling was also <br /> considered the annual sample with additional water chemistry analyses <br /> being performed. <br /> During each monthly sampling, in-situ water quality <br /> measurements of temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, and pH <br /> were made using a Hydro Lab Model 4000 field sampling kit. An expanded <br /> list of water quality parameters was collected during the quarterly <br /> sampling which were sent to Core Laboratories, Inc. , of Denver for <br /> laboratory analysis . Filtration of certain water quality parameters <br /> was accomplished in the field with a Geotech 2. 4 liter barrel filter. <br /> Quality control of water analyses was performed by two <br /> methods . Prior to any field sampling, the Hydro Lab Sampling Kit was <br /> calibrated to known standards produced in the laboratory. A record of <br /> each calibration was kept as to the date, person performing the <br /> calibration, and adjustments made. Core Laboratories , Inc . also <br /> maintains internal quality control of sample handling and <br /> instrumentation calibration. <br /> Water quantity or flow measurements were conducted by a <br /> number of methods. At the beginning of the program, a straight, flat, <br /> stable reach of each stream station was selected as a sampling <br /> location. Near the downstream end of the reach, a cross-section was <br /> surveyed perpendicular to the stream flow and permanently marked with <br /> stakes and flagging. Flow was measured with a Teledyne-Gurley Model <br /> 625 Pygmy type current meter using the USGS six-tenths-depth method. <br /> 8 <br />
