Our file #77-493. <br /> Dear Mr. Zuck: <br /> We have completed our review of the permit application for the Climax <br /> Mine, with the exception of the legal review. We have a number of <br /> t, questions concerning the application that should be adequately addressed <br /> prior to Board action. Our questions and comments are arranged in an <br /> order of decreasing importance with the least vital at the end of the <br /> list, however, this arrangement is only approximate. <br /> 1. Enclosed is a copy of the State Engineer's letter of February 2. <br /> We feel these items should be responded to, with -the exception of <br /> those comments which are favorable. <br /> 2. What assurances are here that the Glory Hole will hold water? If <br /> seepage occurs, as you indicate it probably will, where will the <br /> seepage go? What will be the quality of this water? Will it <br /> support life? <br /> 3. Tailings and Water Problems: <br /> a. It is our understanding that you must extract pyrite from the ore <br /> Dto recover one of the minerals. Why place this pyrite back in <br /> the tailings? Why not keep it isolated so it can be handled in <br /> one place? <br /> b. If the seepage water must be treated prior to release into Ten <br /> D � Mile or Eagle River drainages, who will conduct this treatment? <br /> �? How long will it have to be continued? If such treatment is <br /> necessary, can the area properly be considered reclaimed? <br /> C. How does the three (3) 'feet thick veneer inhibit water infiltration <br /> so an equilibrium and possible perpetual seepage does not occur? <br /> If any ponding would occur, how much and what effect would it have <br /> 4%, ��� ���� on pond stability? <br /> d. Why are the Robinson and Ten Mile Tailings Ponds kept active for <br /> so long? <br />
