2.4 Subgrade Preparation <br />2.5 Soil Liner Fill <br />ame0 <br />Prior to SLF placement, Ames moisture conditioned and compacted the entire surface of the <br />2011 Phase 5 VLF OSA 3 Portion with a smooth drum vibratory compactor according to <br />the project specifications. The quality of the finished surface was then maintained to the <br />project specifications until SLF was placed. <br />Based on neat -line survey, Ames placed and compacted approximately 109,421 cubic yards <br />of SLF in the 2011 Phase 5 VLF OSA 3 Portion to project specifications. Record Drawing <br />No. 3 of 5 in Appendix A presents the as -built surface of the SLF. <br />Ames processed the SLF for the 2011 Phase 5 VLF OSA 3 Portion construction from <br />January 2009 through August 2010. Ames worked the borrow material through a custom - <br />designed rotary mill and screen to remove oversized material from the SLF and to uniformly <br />condition the material prior to stockpiling. <br />Ames began placing SLF in the 2011 Phase 5 VLF OSA 3 Portion in June 2011 and <br />completed SLF placement in October 2011. SLF was compacted to a minimum thickness of <br />12 inches by a smooth -drum vibratory compactor. AMEC observed SLF depth verification <br />tests performed by Ames to confirm appropriate fill depth. Any areas that were found to be <br />deficient in thickness were reworked and retested until the area met project specifications. <br />The SLF depth verification is discussed in Section 4.2.3.3. SLF was moisture - conditioned <br />and compacted as needed to meet project specifications. The minimum SLF density was <br />95 percent of the maximum dry density at 2 percent dry of optimum moisture content to 3 <br />percent wet of optimum moisture content, as determined by standard Proctor tests <br />performed by AMEC.
