Page C -3 of 4
• Shear Strength, laboratory and in -situ (5 tests each event. Laboratory tests such as direct
shear and /or triaxial consolidation with pore pressure measurement, ASTM D- 4767,ASTM
D -6528, and in -situ tests such as CPT, DMT, VS or other similar in -situ testing methods.
Note: CPT is Cone Penetrometer, DMT is Dilitometer, and VS is Vane Shear)*
• Consolidation (5 each event, ID Consolidation, ASTM D- 2435)*
• Permeability, laboratory and in -situ (5 tests each event, falling head permeability ASTM D-
5856)*
* "Each event " is every 6 months over the first two years of operation.
Initial sampling and testing of the refuse material will be conducted during the first six months of the
CPP operation. Refuse material sampling and testing will be conducted every six months after the
initial testing period for the first two years of the CPP operation. The number of tests identified
above will be completed for each sampling event. Additional testing will be conducted after the first
two years of operation only when there is an apparent change in the nature of the refuse.
Geotechnical Properties of RPE East Colluvium
The properties of the in -place colluvium located underneath the proposed RPE East were measured in
the field and in the laboratory during the design phase. The geotechnical parameters established for
this material will be verified by way of a geotechnical testing program. The geotechnical testing
program will include the following:
• Moisture content (ASTM D -2216)
• Grain size with hydrometer (ASTM D -422)
• Atterberg limits (ASTM D -4318 )
• Unit weight
• Shear Strength, laboratory and in -situ (Laboratory tests such as direct shear and /or triaxial
consolidation with pore pressure measurement, ASTM D- 4767,ASTM D -6528, and in -situ
tests such as CPT, DMT, VS or other similar in -situ testing methods.
