Compliance With Mine Plan NA - Support Facilities Not On-site N - Other NA - Special Categories Of Mining NA -Processing Waste N - Topsoil COMMENTS A partial inspection of the Bowie No. 1 Mine was conducted by me, Marcia Talvitie, of the Division on Friday, November 16, 2012. The operator, Bowie Resources, LLC, was not represented. The inspection began at 8:25 a.m. at the Paonia Loadout facility, adjacent to SH 133. I then visited Ponds 3 and 4 at the East Mine; the Well Field; the West Mine; and the Timber Storage Area. The gate to the East Mne was closed, so I did not access that facility. Skies changed from partly cloudy to overcast during the inspection, and temperatures were cool. A stiff, northerly breeze was blowing at the Loadout, but conditions were calm at the remaining sites. FISH and WILDLIFE—Rule 4.18: • A buck mule deer was sighted, moving across the reclaimed Timber Storage Area. • Deer and elk tracks were plentiful across all of the areas inspected. HYDROLOGIC BALANCE -Rule 4.05 Drainage Control 4.05.1, 4.05.2, 4.05.3; Siltation Structures 4.05.5, 4.05.6; Discharge Structures 4.05.7, 4.05.10; Diversions 4.05.4; Effluent Limits 4.05.2; Ground Water Monitoring 4.05.13; Surface Water Monitoring 4.05.13; Drainage—Acid and Toxic Materials 4.05.8; Impoundments 4.05.6, 4.05.9; Stream Buffer Zones 4.05.18: • A light snowfall occurred at the area on the weekend prior to the inspection. While the snow had melted from south-facing slopes, it was still present on shaded areas. The ground was somewhat damp, but generally not muddy. • Ponds 3 and 4 (Photo 1), below the East Mine, were accessed from Stevens Gulch Road. The cable gate at the bottom of the hill was down, allowing vehicular access to the ponds. Both ponds were dry, although some snow was still present on the north-facing slopes. The primary spillway gate on Pond 3 was in the "open" position. I did not check the gate on Pond 4.
