November 14, 2012 C-1991-078/1-lamilton Mine JLE
The Pond A area was stable with vegetative cover.
There is a 3.4 acre disturbed area parcel at the north end of Mining Area No. 1 associated with the Topsoil
Stockpile No. 1 area. This area has not been approved for Phase II bond release, however it is part of the current
Phase III bond release application. The vegetation of this area is very similar to the vegetation found in Mining
Area No.1 in terms of vegetation cover and species distribution. Perennial grasses and shrubs have established
throughout this area and it blends in well with the surrounding reclaimed and undisturbed land.
TOPSOIL—Rule 4.06; Removal 4.06.2; Substitute Materials 4.06.4(4); Storage and Protection 4.06.3;
Redistribution 4.06.4:
Topsoil Stockpile No. 2 appears to have been utilized to reclaim the Pond A area. The pile is stable with
vegetation, some perennial grass has established on the recently disturbed portion of the pile. Annual weeds have
also been established on the stockpile.
The Division used a small shovel to dig several topsoil depth test holes in a 3.4 acre parcel in the Topsoil Stockpile
No. 1 area and the 1.6 acre Pond A area. See Table 1 below for the topsoil depth found at each hole. A map of the
sample locations is enclosed with this report. The depths ranged from 3 to 11 inches. Only one sample from tp 1
yielded 3 inches,this sample appears to be an outlier and is not likely representative of the entire area. If the depth
of tp 1 is removed, on average about 8.7 inches of topsoil was measured in this area.
Table 1.
