831 - 032.794
November 2012
Spring 2012 Subsidence and Geologic Field Observations
Box Canyon, Apache Rocks, and South of Divide Mining Areas
used for annual comparative purposes even before being more formally established. Two
photographic observation points were established in the spring of 2007, seven points were
established in the fall of 2007, two points were established in the spring of 2008, and two
additional points were added during the fall 2009 site visit.
The number designations for these photographic observation points do not reflect the order in
which they were established but rather the order in which they were visited during the fall 2007
field visit. This convention has since been maintained (see Maps 1 and 2) with the exception of
new points which are added as deemed appropriate.
All of these photographic observation points were visited during the spring 2012 field visit (see
Maps 1 and 2 for these locations and associated number designations) except Photographic
Observation Point 6, 8, 8a, 9 and 11. Photographic Observation Point 6 is generally visited once
each year and typically when the leaves have started to fall. Photographic Observation Points 8
and 8a were not visited due to the inability to use the access road to them as reported to us by
MCC staff. The Highway 133 landslides visible from Photographic Observation Point 9 were
not photographed because of the lack of any observed changes in these features over the last
several visits. Photographic Observation Location 11 is of the large rockfall along the North
Fork of the Gunnison River (North Fork) downstream of the loadout facility. This rockfall has
been periodically observed to assess what, if any, changes occur over time. Given its location
relative to current mining activities (see Maps 1 and 2), and those of the recent past, it was
considered an unnecessary location to photograph during the spring 2012 site visit.
Wright Water Engineers, Inc.
