s = variance of revegetated area data
n = number of observations for success standard (cover 15 transects;
production 15 transects)
n = number of observations of revegetated area data set
Productivity
The July 27, 1978 bond release tract shown on Map 13, Fish Creek Tipple
Reclamation, is indicative of the herbage production that can be expected on
recalimed sites within the proposed permit area, even though less
sophisticated seed mixtures and reclamation techniques were utilized when
the site was seeded in May 1974.
Predicted forage production on the bond release site was described by the
Soil Conservation Service as 425 pounds of air -dry forage per acre in
unfavorable years, 565 pounds during normal years, and 860 pounds furing
favorable years. Productivity data was first taken on the bond release
tract in August of 1976 and production of seeded grasses that year amounted
to 437 pounds. In August of 1977, the driest year ever recorded in
northwest Colorado, production of the seeded species averaged 1,263 pounds
per acre. In 1978, a median year, and 1979, a favorable year, forage
production averaged 2,626 pounds per acre. Six years after seeding (1980),
forage production was found to be 2,303 pounds per acre.
While the results from this reclaimed parcel are encouraging, they are less
than productivities achieved under current reclamation practices. For
example, southeast of the bond release tract, an area seeded in October of
1977 yielded 1,988 pounds of air -dry forage per acre during the first
growing season or nearly four times greater than the production recorded for
the 1974 seeding after the second growing season. Based on the results
obtained from these two tracts, premine productivity should be reinstated on
all revegetated areas within 3 to 4 years after seeding.
2.05 -51 Revised February 26, 1988
