outlined below. All disturbed areas will be seeded during the first
suitable planting period following final grading.
Plant Species and Seeding Rates
The two permanent seed mixtures proposed in this permit application were
previously approved for use by the Division on nearby mining disturbances.
Plant species proposed for the perennial mixtures have a documented history
of meeting or exceeding the performance standard requirements of Rule 4.15.
The land use designations delineated on Map 3, of Volume 5 shall dictate
where a particular seed mixture is planted. Existing disturbed areas will
be seeded with the Pastureland seed mixture. Depending on availability,
either the pastureland or cropland mixture will be utilized to rapidly
stabilize critical areas.
Examination of the proposed perennial seed mixtures reveals that TCC desires
to utilize introduced species for which regulatory approval is required. A
summary of the two mixtures proposed for revegetation is set forth below.
Cropland Mixture
At this time, none of the cropland has been disturbed. However, Twentymile
Coal Company has proposed a seed mixture for reestablishing cropland which
contains five perennial species of exotic origin, as shown in Table 26,
Cropland Seed Mixture. A seeding rate of 12 pounds, bulk seed per acre, is
prescribed for areas to be reclaimed as cropland, if any cropland is
disturbed. The introduced species included in the cropland mixture are
documented as being of superior utility for forage production and are
recommended for dryland hay by numberous researchers including Steward
(1973), Seamonds and Roehrkasse (1974) and Marquiss, et. al., (1974).
Pastureland Mixture
The proposed pastureland mixture consists of 9 introduced and 2 native
species, as shown in Table 27, Pastureland Seed Mixture. These species are
of the same seasonal variety as were found on the site
2.05 -39 Revised 12/11/87
