Supplementary Information to
1984 Annual Report, Climax Mine
March 21, 1985
Page 3
Question 3: Please provide documentation as to how the costs were
derived for "Flood Control" for each area requiring
such activity.
Answer : Table 2, Flood Control Calculations, shows how these
costs were derived . As with the rock haul , these
costs are adequate to accomplish the task , but we
must reserve the right to make adjustments to the
design if future work indicates the task can be
accomplished less expensively.
Reclamation Costs - Specific
Question: Area 7-McNulty Soil Stockpile : We are unable to locate
this stockpile on map sheet 1 of 2. Please specify
the location of this stockpile in relationship to the
McNulty Dump.
Answer: As explained in our phone conversation of March 14,
1985, this stockpile is located below the major turn
on the 11, 650 elevation haul road to McNulty Dump,
very near the Area 11 boundary. This location was
pointed out in one or more previous annual reports.
Question: Area 11-Revegetation at $250. 00/acre : Please specify
why this lower amount was used when the prelude
specified an "average revegetation cost" would be
$2, 250. 00.
Answer: Portions of nearly all of the 36 affected land areas
at Climax contain some "Buffer" , which is undisturbed
land reserved for future possible disturbance. It
happens that Area 11 is all buffer. None of the area
has been disturbed in the recent past. Your
confusion is justified. We should not post financial
warranty for this area.
The area was logged during the mining boom days
before the turn of the century. We have voluntarily
planted evergreens in the area in an attempt to
initiate the reestablishment of a forest. The
$6 , 000 shown as a revegetation cost represents money
to continue this effort.
