decantation systems and pumping facilities? How
much money is required? Are these items
necessary in perpetuity? How much maintenance
is required?
A. The amendments we have requested do not propose
any change in the size or location of our final
water management facilities; nor do they propose
any change in our commitment to manage them.
Operation and maintenance of water management
facilities will remain the responsibility of
Climax Molybdenum Company, or whomever else
might assume this responsibility through acqui-
sition of the property and proper permit trans-
fer . Monitoring systems will be established to
insure that the facilities accomplish their
task.
We estimate that the post-mining average annual
maintenance cost of water management facilities
will range from $100 , 000 to $200, 000 . Facili-
ties such as the decantation system, interceptor
canals and pumping facilities should not be
required in perpetuity; nor will reservoirs and
tunnels necessarily be maintained in perpetuity.
However , existing structures or substitutes will
be maintained as needed to protect the Company' s
water rights .
11. Q. Who will maintain and operate post-mining water
treatment facilities? Who will pay the
estimated $500 , 000 . 00/year operating costs? How
long will water treatment have to be continued?
A. The amendments we have requested do not propose
any change in our post-mining water treatment
plans .
Climax Molybdenum Company, or whomever else
might assume this responsibility through
acquisition of the property and proper permit
transfer , will maintain and operate the post-
mining water treatment facilities. The current
$500,000 annual operating cost should not apply
to the post-mining situation, because there will
be no post-mining industrial water system; we
will only be concerned with seep water from
-12-
