COMMENTS
This was a complete inspection of the Bowie No. 1 Mine conducted by Susan Burgmaier of CDRMS. Basil Bear
of Bowie Resources, LLC was present during the inspection. Weather conditions were sunny and warm;ground
conditions were very dry. The mine is no longer producing coal, and reclamation of the site is nearly complete.
No reclamation or maintenance activities were observed during the inspection. Overall the site was in good
condition and well maintained.
AVAILABILITY OF RECORDS—Rule 5.02.4(1):
Records were inspected at the Bowie No. 2 Mine office. All required records were available and current,
as documented in the attached checklist.
BACKFILL and GRADING—Rule 4.1411 Contemporaneous Reclamation 4.14.1; Approximate Original Contour
4.14.2; Highwall Elimination 4.14.1(2)(f); Steep Slopes 4.14.2, 4.27;Handling of Acid and Toxic Materials
4.14.3; Stabilization of Rills and Gullies 4.14.6:
Backfilled and regraded slopes at the east and west mines were stable with no evidence of slumping,
cracking, or excessive erosion.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE -Rule 4.05❑ Drainage Control 4.05.1, 4.05.2, 4.05.3; Siltation Structures 4.05.5,

Ponds, 1, 3, 4,the West Ridge, and ROM ponds at the East Mine were dry. Pond 2 held very little water,
well below the discharge level. Pond 1 was recently dredged, and the operator indicated that Pond 3 would likely
be dredged late this year or next year,however the sediment level in Pond 3 was below the level at which cleanout
is required. The two ponds at the West Mine and the two ponds at the loadout were all dry.
The operator had recently reconstructed Ditch 7 at the East Mine. The ditch was regraded, lined with filter cloth,
and armored with rip rap. The ditch appears to be very well constructed and the rip rap was well graded and
