from floor to roof. Additional material will be excavated as needed to accomplish backfilling
of the highwall.
Upon completion of the task, the top of the fill at the south entry will extend ten (10) feet
above the block wall corner at the south east edge of the entry opening. This ten 0 0) feet
backfill height will be maintained for the length of the highwall, which is estimated to be
fifteen (15) feet in length. The fill shall be compacted in six (6) foot lifts by a sheep's foot
roller. Upon completion, the outslope of the fill shall toe into the concrete wall remnant
located approximately twenty (20) feet outside the entry.
Upon completion of the task, the top of the fill at the north entry will extend twelve (12) feet
above ground level. This twelve (12) feet backfill height will be maintained for the length of
the highwall, which is estimated to be fifteen (15) feet in length. The fill shall be compacted
in six (6) foot lifts by a sheep's foot roller. Upon completion, the outslope of the fill shall not
exceed 1 H:1 V.
The remaining bench remnant shall be graded to ensure that water drains away from the base
of the fill area toward the bench outslope.
A contour furrow will be constructed on the bench remnant to contain runoff in order to help
prevent sediment transport away from the Mine 2 area. This furrow is described, and will be
constructed and paid for, under Task 5, Surface Drainage: Contour Furrows.
Upon completion of backfilling, grading and drainage construction, the bench remnant shall
be ripped to a depth of eighteen (18) inches.
Task 41i - Mine 2 Fan Access Road
The purpose of the earth work portion of the project at the fan access road is to promote
surface drainage from the road surface as sheet flow whenever possible, thus minimizing the
channelization of water. This will be accomplished by employing one of three techniques as
specified by the PROJECT MANAGER. Some portions of the roads have a relatively flat
gradient. At these locations, the road will be ripped, and graded as needed, so that water
flows across the road surface as sheet flow. In those sections of the roads where the
gradient is steeper, rolling dips will be constructed. In steeper areas, cut out trenches will be
constructed in order to channel water off of the roadway. Rolling dips will be constructed and
paid for under Task 6, Surface Drainage: Rolling Dips. Cut out trenches will be constructed
and paid for under Task 7, Surface Drainage: Cut Out Trenches.
Road drainage culverts shall be decommissioned when located. The culverts will be excavated
and removed if shallow (three feet or less from ground surface to culvert), or pinched closed
if deeply buried. Both ends of culverts left in place will be pinched closed. Upon completion
of the road reclamation project, the remaining road remnant shall be ripped to a depth of
twelve (12) inches.
17
