ITEM 3: DESCRIPTION OF PREVENTATIVE FACILITIES
(a) Uncontaminated Run -off Control
The perimeter of the waste dump at the JD -7 mine is
bermed to catch and divert run -off water due to major
weather activity away from the ponds. Also, there is a
run -off catchment ditch between the waste dump and ponds.
The ponds at the JD -9 Mine are located on the mesa top,
leaving no chance of run -off entering them.
(b) Diesel Fuel and Oil Spill Containment
The diesel storage tanks have been temporarily removed
and the oil drum storage areas are not utilized due to
limited mine operations.
When full -scale mining operations resume at JD -7, the
diesel tank will be placed in a bermed area of sufficient
size to contain any accidental spill, thereby preventing
any discharge to surface waters or the treatment ponds.
When full -scale mining operations resume at JD -9, the
diesel tank will be placed in a bermed storage area of
sufficient size to contain any spill from threatening
surface waters.
NOTE: ?OWER FAILURE
At the present time, standby power is not available and
all operations cease in the case of a total power
failure; therefore, water flow to the treatment plant
ceases and the outflow from the ponds will cease in short
order.
Materials Containment Plan - Page 5
