•
3 feet, placed far enough down the hole that a minimum of several feet of mine
waste and one foot of soil cover can be placed on top of this plug. This cover
material will be slightly mounded so that after natural compaction, there will not
be a depression remaining to collect any surface water. This area will then be
scarified and seeded.
f Berms and Ponds
All rainwater containment structures will be left in place in order to discourage
contact with the waste rock and ore pad. All retention ponds will be seeded,
ditches will not.
g•
Re- vegetation
Utilities
The portable toilets, water storage tank and air compressor will be hauled off site.
The transformer stations and power lines are the property and responsibility of the
San Miguel Power Association.
h. Waste Rock Pile
The waste pile will be graded to mimic the existing topography using a D -6 dozer
or equivalent. The slope will be no steeper than 3H:1 V anywhere on the surface.
Once the re- contouring is completed the area will be covered with topsoil to the
maximum depth possible (2 inches - 12 inches) using the soil salvaged from this
area during construction. The area will then be pocked using a Cat 315 excavator
or equivalent and then seeded using the recommended seed mixture. Experience
in the northern part of the property indicates that pocking will provide a more
sustainable re- vegetation effort even if large amounts of topsoil are not available.
i. Ore Stockpile
All ore will be removed prior to reclamation. As the waste rock pile is directly
adjacent to the ore stockpile area, some waste rock may be distributed over this
area to create a more gradual slope on the waste rock pile. The compacted soil on
this pad will then be scarified, covered with as much soil as possible from the soil
stockpile and seeded.
The following seed mixture is specified by DOE to be used on DOE leases in this area.
This seed mix was developed, in consultation with the U.S Bureau of Land Management
and is recommended for use on all affected acreage in this permit. Seed selection criteria
were based on climate and elevation ranges within these areas. Recognizing that surface
and soil conditions, nutrients, and available moisture can vary within these areas,
successful establishment of six or more of the twelve species is considered adequate. If
the total number of species seeded is less than that specified below, the seeding rates for
the individual species must be adjusted accordingly. All seed tags must be submitted to
DOE for verification prior to the seeding application.
E -3
