JAN.23.19% 2 :36PM CITY OF ASPEN No.805 P.13
MNICY SEWAGE TMIXENT PLANT
On July 24, 1977 a 35-year storm in the headwaters of Dutch Creek
created flash flooding downstream that severely damaged Mid - Continent
Coal and Coke's bathhouse /District office located in Coal Basin, 4k
miles west of Redstone, Colorado,
The flood destroyed all the plumbing fixtures and filled the sewers
and septic tanks with mud and rock. One of the taro existing leach fields
was exposed during the cleanup operation. Based on the damage, the most
efficient repair was the installation of now septic tanks and leach
fields.
Richard Bowman, District Engineer, Colorado Health Department;
Robert Nelson, Pitkin County Sanitarian; Brad Bourquin, Mining Engineer
and John T4irner, General Manager of Mid - Continent net August 31 and
outlined the following plan and authorized emergency construction.
Service from the bathhouse is divided into two sewers as follows:
Septic Tank #1
6 toilets
@
36
gal /hr
(3 hr)
648 gpd
4 urinals
@
10
gal /hr
(3 hr)
120 gpd
2 sinks
@
15
gal/ha
(3 hr)
90 gpd
858 gpd
Septic Tank #2
2 toilets
@
36
gal/hr
(3 hr)
216 gpl
1 urinal
@
10
gal. /hr
(3 hr)
30
4
Service from the training center
Septic Tank 03
2 toilets @ 36 gal/hr (3 hr) 216 gpd
2 urinals @ 10 gal /hr (3 hr) 60 gpd
2 sinks @ 15 gal /hr (3 hr) 90
366 gpd
The sewage flow was estimated using, Table 10 - Sewage,Flow at Public
Parks in the Manual of Septic -Tank Practice, U. S. Department of I%alth,
Education, and Welfare. This table was considered appropriate since the
facilities are used by the miners as they prepare for work and once again
as they leave. The mine operates three shifts with each shift having
about one hour total time in the bathhouse.
