TASK 3 EARTHWORK
The goal of the earthwork task is to place soil medium on the refuse pile in order to
encourage adequate revegetation. Two drainage channels and a down drain will be
constructed on the pile under Task 2. Prior to topsoiling efforts, final grading will take
place on the refuse pile to reduce over-steep slopes. This grading will be paid for under
Task 5a), Equipment Rental hours for bulldozer. After the construction of drainages and
final grading is complete and approved by the PROJECT MANAGER, the coal refuse
disposal area will have topsoil replaced upon it to facilitate revegetation.
The estimated volume of topsoil that will be placed on the Sutey Refuse disposal area is
35,000 cubic yards. The figure is based upon one inch (1") to 400 feet scale maps and field
measurements. This is an ESTIMATION ONLY and is stated to give prospective bidders
an idea of the yardage volumes involved. It is the responsibility of the prospective bidders
to determine volumes.
Site Clearing
Prior to initiating earthwork tasks, any remaining equipment, materials or foundations left
behind from the previous mining operation will be buried or removed from the site as
directed by the PROJECT MANAGER. Concrete materials may be hauled to the No's. 1,
3, or 4 mine entries for disposal against the highwall remnant. Other materials will be
hauled to the main facilities area for removal by others. Likewise, during earthwork
activities, any trash encountered will be hauled to the main facilities area for removal by
others, as designated by the PROJECT MANAGER. Trash includes, but is not limited to,
culvert pieces, abandoned electric lines, cable and miscellaneous metal, debris and timber.
Sutey Refuse Pile
Following excavation of the drainages under Task 2, topsoil will be placed upon the refuse
surface. Approximately 35,000 cubic yards of topsoil material will be spread over the refuse
pile. Slopes with a southern exposure will receive 27 inches of topsoil; slopes with a western
exposure will receive 21 inches of topsoil and slopes with northern or eastern exposures will
receive 15 inches of topsoil. All topsoil depths will be measured perpendicular to the slope.
The three different areas will be staked in the field by the PROJECT MANAGER prior to
topsoil application. The topsoil will be derived from two adjacent topsoil stockpiles.
Compaction will be accomplished up and down slopes so that the track-machine grouser
marks are parallel to the contour.
Measurement and Payment
There will be no measurement for payment. Payment for this task will be reflected in a
lump sum bid under Item 3 on the Bid Schedule. This lump sum will cover payment of all
costs for excavation, transport and placement of the topsoil. Payment shall be as this task
is completed and approved by the PROJECT MANAGER. Payment for task 3 shall be
made only for that amount shown under Item 3 of the Bid Schedule. Any or all incidental
costs incurred shall be reflected in each Task or be paid at the CONTRACTOR's expense.
7
