STATE, OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF MINERALS AND GEOLOGY
Department of Natural Resources PFW,7T,
1313 Sherman St,Room 215
Denver,Colorado 80203
Phone:(303)866-3567
FAX:(303)832-8106
DEPARTMENT Of
NATURAL
RESOURCE
NEWS RELEASE Roy Romer
Governor
For Immediate Release For more Information: James Lochhead
10/6/94 Steve Renner (303) 241-0336 Executive Director
Michael B Long
Division Director
STATE DELAYS RECLAMATION AT COAL BASIN MINE
The Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology has postponed
reclamation activities at the Coal Basin Mine in Pitkin County this
year. The state is canceling the Coal Basin/Suety Waste Pile
Project because all the bids exceeded the amount budgeted for this
work. This was caused by a combination of factors including
lateness of the money received through the bankruptcy proceedings
for reclamation and the short time remaining in this construction
season.
"Costs were higher because this work was independent of the
larger coordinated reclamation effort for the Coal Basin mine, "
said Steve Renner, project manager. "The amount of reclamation
required makes it necessary to get the most competitive prices
possible, " he added.
Delaying this work does not cause any environmental or safety
problems. Maintenance work necessary before reclamation activities
can take place next summer will be conducted this fall. A full
reclamation plan will be developed this winter for bidding in the
Spring of 1995.
MORE
