Duration of the working season: <br /> Inspection Reports for Fall, 1992 and Spring, 1993: <br /> DMG Report of 9/15/92• <br /> During the August meeting of the Mined Land Reclamation Board, Mid- <br /> Continent's permit to conduct mining and reclamation was revoked. The <br /> Company was the ordered to begin reclamation according to the approved <br /> reclamation plan and by the schedules set forth in the May, 1991 <br /> settlement agreement. The company has contracted with a salvage <br /> company and started work to remove underground materials(including <br /> potentially hazardous wastes) from the mining workings. This activity will <br /> continue until the end of September when the ventilation fans and water <br /> pumps will be shut down. <br /> DMG Report of 10/29/92: <br /> ... It was raining and snowing during the inspection. The mine is no longer <br /> producing coal. _Reclamation activities have been in progress, with activities <br /> focusing-on equpment removal. The pumps and ventilation fans have been shut <br /> down andp/ans-are proceeding fo seal some 50+portals: ,The Mined Land <br /> Redamatior Board revoked the mining and reclamation j eftit'dadng the August <br /> meeting and ordered Mid-Continent to reclaim the mine according to an earlier <br /> settlement agreement at the approved reclamation plan. <br /> The physical inspection began by inspecting various segments of haul road to <br /> discuss various reclamation objectives, techniques, and problems. The road <br /> surface was wet but passable. Drainage coming off the road was canying <br /> considerable sediment. The inspection continued by inspecting the portal bench <br /> at Mine#1. Considerable activity has occurred in removing structures or starting <br /> to remove structures. ... <br /> DMG Report of 11/9/92: <br /> ... Reclamation commenced with removal of equipment and beltline from <br /> underground. This activity has been completed and the mine ventilation fans <br /> and dewatedng pumps have been shut down. Equipment salvage had begun at <br /> the 1 and 2 mine portals. Due to the onset of snow, all salvage operations have <br /> ceased for this construction season. <br /> The inspection began at the loadout located in Carbondale. It was snowing <br /> during the inspection and 6-8"of snow had fallen the previous night. ... The <br /> inspection continued at the mine site where it was snowing and there was 2-3 <br /> feet of snow on the ground. The very limited working staff had managed to clear <br /> the road from Redstone to the facilities entrance and from the facilities entrance <br /> -Working Season- 1992-93 <br />
