MININL AN(",I1NF I 1
PRUCE E,S 1 If tAC A, P.IF.
NALCO CHEMICAL COMPANY
2422 SDUTH DOV/NING STREET DENVEFR COLORADO B0210 - AREA 303-777-9590
November 12, 1984
Mr. Doug Bowman
Mid-Continent Coal & Coke
P.O. Box 158
Carbondale, Colorado 81623
Dear Mr. Bowman:
I realize the difficulties imposed upon you by the State to meet certain
effluent standards, but as we both concluded, some are obtainable while
others are economically impractical. Given your situation and environment
where feed systems would have to be installed, the drip system, as you
suggested, adjusted by a valve and measured by hand with a graduated
cylinder would be by far the most practical and economical. Since the
State in concerned that at times you might be overdosing and possibly
polluting the river I suggest you consider using NALCO 8103 which is a
potable version of the product you are now using, NALCO 8852. Enclosed
you will find a Product Bulletin and Material Safety Data Sheet.
I have looked through the file for Mid-Continent to see if I could find
the dosage and dilution that we previously recommended and have come up
with the following. The dosage should be 1 to 2 ppm and as far as dilution
goes I could find no record of this information. I would suggest that we
derive a dilution based upon some guess as to chemical consumption per
feed location and dilute so that the drum need not be changed to frequently
or whatever is acceptable to you. I will have to discuss this aspect in
greater detail with you so we can come up with a reasonable way to estimate
product dilution.
Sincerely,
Rolf B.
