RE: Request for Suspension of Subsidence Monitoring Program - C-017-81
Dear Mr. Wear:
The Division has reviewed your request of July 12, 1985, for suspension of the
subsidence monitoring program and found it to be incomplete. I direct you to
the last paragraph of the enclosed memo from Mr. Jim Pendleton to Mr. Jim
Herron, dated December 3, 1984. This memo was subsequently transmitted to
Mid-Continent on December 4, 1984. In summary, Mr. Pendletone,directed that,
"The operator' s report should clearly discuss whether or not the observed
subsidence verifies the predictions contained within the permit application".
I further direct your attention to Page 59 of the Findings of Compliance
document for the Coal Basin Mines of August, 1984. The findings state that
the company installed an extensive system of subsidence monitoring monuments
with which it proposes to verify its projections of subsidence occurrence.
The findings identify the following areas which were to be verified:
Maximum subsidence resulting from mining;
Horizontal movement of the ground surface resulting from mining;
Subsidence development profiles;
Subsidence profiles resulting from mining;
Stream profiles resulting from mining;
Determination of the angle of draw; and,
The effects of depth and mining geometry on subsidence.
