MID-CONTINENT RESOURCES
P.O.Box 1298
Glenwood Springs, CO 81602
May 5; 1993
Mike Claffey
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
402 Rood Ave.
Room 142
Grand Junction, CO 81501
Dear Mr. Claffey:
Mid-Continent has a mine property in Pitkin County on which we will be doing
reclamation work this summer, and for several years to come. We have need of a
supply of rock material, which is used as a means of sediment control on our road
system. I would like to utilize some of the rock which can be found in the vicinity of the
several streams which flow through our mine property, and am writing to ask whether
we need any kind of permit or permission from the Corps. of Engineers to do so.
The mine is located in Coal Basin, which is four miles west of Redstone. The primary
stream is Coal Creek, which has a number of tributaries, including the north and south
forks of Dutch Creek, Oilwell Creek and Porcupine Creek. Past flood events, and
changes of the stream channel, have deposited considerable debris flow in areas
above the normal or high water flow of the streams. This seems to me to be a potential
source of rock material, which we could pick up without any effect on or interference to
the streama thembelves.
We have requested approval of this proposal from the Colorado Mined Land
Reclamation Division, which is the agency with direct responsibility for reclamation
activity at the mine. They suggested that we check with the Corps of Engineers.
I'm enclosing a map of the area, and hope that this provides sufficient information.
Please call me if you have questions at (303) 945-4958. Thank you.
Yours truly,
A lz,Q
Diane Delaney
Mid-Continent Resources
