- 4 -
temporary storage pile will be maintained until approximately
12,000 tons of material accumulate. At this time, the rock will be
pneumatically placed into the mine stopes.
Storage tanks will be surrounded by earth berms sufficient in
height to contain spills. An elastomeric lining material will be
utilized on the ground surface below the concrete vats and product
tanks. The membrane will also be utilized to line the inside of the
concrete vats.
If plant operation conditions Change significantly from those
described above, we should be notified to re- evaluate the
recommendations contained in this report.
FIELD INVESTIGATION
The field investigation for the project was conducted in
December 1979 and January 1980. Field investigation consisted of a
reconnaissance of the plant ,site and mine by the project geologist and
the project soil engineer, the logging of 10 exploratory test pits by
the project soil engineer, conducting six in -situ permeability tests
in the mine stopes and measuring ground water levels in the several
existing exploratory holes on the JD-5 lease.
Exploratory Test Pits: Ten exploratory test pits were excavated in
the overburden soils with a tractor -- mounted 1/4 yard backhoe. The
locations of the exploratory test pits are shown on Fig. 2.
Elevations and coordinates for the test pits were determined by Gates
& Fox Company, Inc.
Samples of the subsurface materials encountered were obtained by
driving a 2 -inch I.D. thin - walled brass sampling tube into the soils
