Box 158
Carbondale, CO 81623
L i
Dear Doug:
This responds to your request for an assessment of our general flood
damage situation this spring. Basically, runoff of 175% of normal or
more has created extensive damage to our road system district wide.
In addition, the totally saturated soil conditions have caused natural —
mudslides that have not damaged facilities but have caused resource
damage.
Total road damage to date for the entire White River National Forest is
probably in the range of $300e000. _ As you know, most of the mudslides _
in the Crystal Raver drainage have affected State Highway 133 and are
not included in our estimates nor is your activity at Coal Basin. I
will send you a copy of our final damage estimates in July.
Sincerely, -
JACK ftTYER
District Ranger
r
Fs-szaa•„tsao)
