Outslope of rock tunnel pad.
The outslope extends from a berm which borders the portal yard
area, down to the Buffer Zone for Dutch Creek. The slope is
gentle, and covers an area of . 75 acre. We had considered
construction of a berm along the bottom of the slope, or a possible
catchment basin at the lowest end, but determined this would be
unadvisable because it would disturb the buffer zone.
This outslope was previously vegetated, but the vegetation is not
well established on the western-most side. For that reason, we
propose to re-seed this portion of the slope with the approved
8 ,000' seed mix, and then mulch. Establishment of a good
vegetative cover along this embankment should be an effective
sediment control mechanism.
Berm behind the bathhouse.
This was identified in the NoV as a topsoil pile, but we believe it
is in fact a berm constructed for flood control. The area of the
berm is .21 acre. It is largely covered with rock and vegetation
and is separated from Dutch Creek (to the south) on all but the
southwest end by a second berm which consists of large rock. All
drainage from the northerly side of the pile flows to the
preparation plant yard area, which in turn goes to the 001 pond
series. For these reasons, Mid-Continent believes that any
contribution of sediment from this berm to Dutch Creek is minimal.
We do believe that enhancing the vegetative cover would further
decrease any potential for sediment contribution from the berm, and
so propose to seed those sections in which there is sparse
vegetative cover on the berm, especially southwest end. The 8 ,000
seed mix will be used.
Lumber storage area at Road C crossing.
The area alongside Dutch Creek near the road C crossing is a
relatively level place which consists of debris flow from Dutch
Creek. The area is relatively flat, but this is a natural occurance
and not the result of any excavation or disturbance by Mid-
Continent. Lumber had been set on this area for storage, but it
was not otherwise disturbed.
The lumber has been removed.
No. 1 Mine Substation
This area measures .04 acre and is taken up in part by concrete
foundations. Mid-Continent will construct a 3' berm around the
outside perimeter to contain sediment.
3
