Dept. of Natural Resource,,
Ms. Candace Thompson
Mined Land Reclamation Division
423 Centennial Building
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, CO 80203
Re: Estimated Reclamation Costs -
Coal Basin Mines
Dear Candace;
Enclosed herewith are the re-calculations of
reclamation costs in line with our discussions on September
5th. In addition to listing the costs by major reclamation
function, such as backfilling and grading, I have also
listed them by area, such as individual mine portal areas .
Mid-Continent' s post mining plan for the loadout
area is to convert the 30,000 ton covered coal storage bin
into a warehouse configuration. This can easily be
accomplished by filling the chute type underground bin with
rock and sand and then laying a concrete floor at ground
level. This will provide an excellent 40,000 square foot
warehouse for storing and processing all types of products
and materials. The adjacent office building will provide
office space for managing almost any type of commercial
activity. It is fully wired for electricity and tele-
phones, and the water and sewer plumbing is in excellent
shape. This area, about one mile from Carbondale, with a
rail spur, an office building, several acres of outside
storage area, and large warehouse space is ideal for
such businesses as trucking companies, maintenance shops ,
grocery and soft drink bulk storage and handling, con-
struction contractor storage area, etc. Areas and
facilities for these type commercial functions are very
scarce in the Roaring Fork valley,
