Clause 23. Erosion Control. The permittee shall be responsible <br /> for the prevention and control of soil erosion and <br /> gullying on lands covered by this permit and on <br /> adjacent thereto, resulting from the construction or <br /> maintenance of the authorized use. He shall so <br /> construct and maintain his improvements to avoid the <br /> accumulation of excessive heads of water and to avoid <br /> encroachment on streams. He shall revegetate all <br /> ground where the soil has been exposed and shall <br /> construct and maintain terracing, waterbars, lead-off <br /> ditches, or other preventative works that may be <br /> required to prevent or control erosions prescribed by <br /> the District Ranger. <br /> Clause 24. Environmental Standards. Holder shall conduct all <br /> activities associated with the waste disposal and <br /> pipeline in a manner that would avoid or minimize <br /> degradation of air, land, and water quality. In the <br /> construction, operation, maintenance, and termination <br /> of waste disposal and pipeline, holder shall perform <br /> its activities in accordance with the applicable air <br /> and water quality standards, related facilities siting <br /> standards, and related plans of implementation, <br /> including but not limited to standards adopted pursuant <br /> to the Clean Air Act, as amended (42 USC 1857) and the <br /> Federal Water Pollution Control Act, as amended (33 USC <br /> 1321) . <br /> 3. Special Use Permit issued 2/11/80 and amended on 11/6/81, 3/30/83, and <br /> 2/9/90. This permit supersedes a special use permit designated: Mid- <br /> Continent Coal and Coke Co. , Power Transmission, 6/19/69. The permit <br /> is for the construction, operation and maintenance of two powerlines <br /> (Appendix E, Figure 4) . <br /> Pertinent clauses protecting the integrity of National Forest lands: <br /> Clause 10. The permittee shall maintain the improvements and <br /> premises to the standards of repair, orderliness, <br /> neatness, sanitation, and safety acceptable to the <br /> Forest Service. <br /> Clause 25. Esthetics. The permittee shall protect the scenic <br /> esthetic values of the area under this permit, and the <br /> adjacent land, as far as possible with authorized use, <br /> during construction, operation,and maintenance of the <br /> improvements. <br />
