Reclamation Cost Estimates
Coal Basin Mines Y
Facilities Removal
1 . Removal of Bin Roofs
From Means Site Work Data (1984) Crew B-8 can remove 21 ,500 cubic foot (cf) of
structure per day.
The bin covers are 100 foot diameter and 58 feet in height. This makes a
total volume of 151,844 cubic feet per bin cover, making a total volume of
303,688 cf. Crew B-8 has a daily cost of $3,222.00. Therefore the total
removal cost would be $45,000.00.
2. Removal of Conveyors
Main Conveyor - 5,350 feet.
Alternate Coal Storage - 175 feet
Portal to wash plant - 300 feet
Each of the conveyors is approximately 5 feet wide and 4 feet in height from
the bottom of the belt to the top cover. This makes a total of 116,500 cubic
feet of conveyor to remove. Using the same crew as above. The cost for this
portion of conveyor removal would be $17, 500.00
Concrete footers on the conveyor will not have to be removed since they will
be covered during backfilling operations.
From the plans, it appears that 200 trusses will be constructed along the
conveyor system. It is assumed that the trusses are 3 feet in height along
the conveyor except for 12 elevated trusses.
It is further assumed that the main trusses are 2 inches in diameter and that
elevated trusses are 8 inches in diameter.
From Means, Crew B-13 can remove approximately 400 linear feet (Lf) of 2 inch
trusses per day and 350 Lf of 8 inch trusses. There are a total of 1,128 Lf
of 2 inch trusses -to be removed and 1 ,116 Lf of 8 inch trusses to be removed.
The total cost for this would be $10,500.00.
To complete the removal of the conveyor system, two transfer points would have
to be removed. It is assumed that these have dimensions of 10 ft x 10 ft.
Therefore, a total of 2,000 cf would have to be removed. Using Mean' s Crew
B-8 and daily production of 21 ,500 cf, this would cost $300.00.
The total cost for conveyor removal would be $28,300.00.
