S . Wood
Mine (#3) and northerly of the Bear Creek Mine (#4) . This mine
was opened in 1956 and has produced approximately a total of
8, 000, 000 tons of clean coal through 1985 .
The mine is developed with a seven heading
set of main entries driven westerly from the outcrop a distance
of 10, 000 ft . The main entries are driven more or less directly
down the 11 degree to 13 degree dip of the coal seam. Ultimately
the length of the main slopes will be 16-18, 000 ft . , but will ,
for all practical purposes, start at "0" downslope from the
tunnel intersection with the coal seam.
Coal producing sections have been driven both
to the north and to the south of the main slopes . After removal
i of the coal, production entries are abandoned and sealed at the
main slopes .
