coal beds and the topography of Huntsman Ridge, the cover above
the underground workings will remain more or less constant to the
west of Huntsman Ridge.
The Mine Plan Area encompasses those areas which
will be needed for mining over the next 40 years . The Permit
Area applied for in this application is the same as the mine plan
area. Even though the permit area will not change over the life
of the mine, it is anticipated that the underground sequence of
operations will require updating at 5 year intervals for the life
of the mine. Signs and markers delineating the extent of the
mine plan/permit area are posted to comply with the provisions of
Rule 4 .02.
b . Anticipated sequence of mining and reclamation
Mine production, coal preparation, transportation
and supporting services are organized and scheduled to achieve
the most efficient production consistent with safety, market
demand, and protection of the environment . All coal will be
produced by underground mining methods . Conceptually each of the
five mines are very similar in layout, organization and operation.
Because of the physiography and geology of Coal Basin the similarity
of the mines is not always immediately apparent . As each mine
progresses further from the outcrop the increased cover above the
active workings significantly decreases the viability of room and
pillar mining. Although the entries and headings are presently
t
being mined by room and pillar methods longwall mining will be
the dominate mining method during the remainder of the five year
term of this permit .
