C . Anticipated annual and total production of
coal
(1) General
Mid-Continent Resources plans to mine between
1, 000, 000 and 2, 500,000 tons of coal per year from its Coal Basin
mines for the life of the mine. It is estimated that there are
at least 80,000, 000 tons of recoverable coal in the two minable
seams within the Federal coal leases and privately owned lands
available to the company in the Mine Plan Area . Mining operations
will be conducted in the two commercially minable coal seams of
the Mesaverde group located in Coal Basin. These seams are the
Coal Basin seam or B Bed and the Dutch Creek seam or Middle Bed .
In certain locations the B Bed is split by an igneous intrusion,
the lower portion of which is referred to as the A seam. The
Middle Bed overlies the B Bed stratigraphically by about 450
feet . Although there are other coal seams in Coal Basin, such as
the Placita Seam, they are not considered to be commercially
minable. The coal seams outcrop along the sides of the Basin at
elevations ranging from approximately 9, 500 feet to 10, 700 feet.
The coal seams are believed to be continuous, except for some
faulting, within the mine plan area. Because of intense faulting,
thickness of the coal beds, igneous intrusives and the extreme
depth of cover; " portions of the coal resources within the mine
plan area are not commercially minable at this time which accounts
for the relative low recovery rate.
