Local citizens have historically been very interested <br /> in watershed improvement within Coal Basin. Groups such as the <br /> Redstone Caucus, Sopris Greens and the Crystal River Environmental <br /> Protection Association may be willing to provide volunteers and <br /> possibly other support services. <br /> 8. A number of educational opportunities will present themselves <br /> during completion of the project. Coal Basin has a long history of <br /> coal mining. The historic town site of Coal Basin is located near <br /> the project area. Local historians or other knowledgeable <br /> individuals may be available to provide a tour and overview of the <br /> area. Natural history educational opportunities are also <br /> available. Geologic conditions with Coal Basin are unique and <br /> prove to be interesting to many individuals. The concepts of mine <br /> site reclamation and watershed improvement through revegetation <br /> efforts provide learning experiences, particularly for younger <br /> people in search of career opportunities. <br /> 9. The project will need to be accomplished during September, <br /> 1997. In order that preparatory work is completed prior to the <br /> project beginning, the Division will need to receive project <br /> approval by March 1, 1997 . The project will be completed on steep <br /> slopes at 10 ,000 feet elevation.
