20
1 Following this request, an emergency
2 meeting of the MLRB was held on October 28, and
3 during that hearing the board determined that the
4 October 21 request for hearing and an objection did
5 contain sufficient details in order to actually move
6 forward with a formal public hearing.
7 During that October 28 meeting, the
8 board set a hearing date for November 17 and 18 in
9 Denver. Also on October 28 the board determined
10 that there was a need for a prehearing conference.
11 As Bruce Stover described earlier,
12 there were numerous pieces to the objection letter
13 received on the 21st, and in the prehearing
14 conference that was held on November 3, we
15 identified the items within that objection that were
16 pertinent to PR 6 and actually qualified as being
17 within the board's jurisdiction for ruling.
18 The New Horizon mine is located in
19 western Montrose County about 27 miles from the Utah
20 border as the crow flies. The mine area shown here
21 on the screen, here's the town of Nucla. It's just
22 immediately abutting the southeast corner of the
23 mine. The permit area is outlined in this white
24 dashed line here (indicated). This entire permit
25 area totals about 827 acres.
