Following is a
summary of the work completed for this project.
SGC had identified three drainage paths with significant surface/subsurface flows
upgradient from Tailings Pond No. 1 (TP1) and the Mayflower Mill. Starting from the
west end of TP1, they are called Drainage A, Drainage B, and Drainage C.
Drainage A
The natural drainage was followed upgradient until the flow could be isolated on a rock
outcrop. An excavation was made in the drainage and a 4-foot diameter manhole
installed. Approximately 20 feet downgradient another 4 foot diameter manhole was
installed as a secondary catchment. The manholes were connected with 24" ADS pipe
and the outlet from the lower manhole was extended to the lined diversion ditch installed
on TP1 with 24" ADS pipe (approximately 660 feet). Bowls were formed around the
manholes with the manholes being drains for these bowls. The bowls were then shotcrete
lined. The upgradient bowl was covered with a rock cover to restore the drainage
