• Seed acquired for the various seed mixes will be of the highest quality possible. The addition of large
numbers of native spedes (harvested from native sources) will contribute larger quantifies of trash and inert
matter. However, all seed mixes are spedfied on a PLS basis, ensuring the spedfied amount of viable seed
is being applied. Sources will be on a regional basis whenever possible, particularly for the native harvest
spedes. Seed tags for all seed used in a given reclamation year will be presented in the annual reclamation
report.
Native species predominate in all mixes, including Seed Mix No. 3 for temporary reclamation. The following
species, by seed mix, are introduced.
Seed Mix No. 1 Orchardgn3ss
Russian wildrye
Cicer milkvetch
Alfalfa
Seed Mix No. 2 Redtop bentgrass
Creeping foxtail
• Birdsfoot trefoil
Seetl Mix No. 3 Intermediate wheatgrass
Alfalfa
The above introduced spedes have been included in the mixes to enhance the forage utility of the
revegetated lands, legume presence in the stand, benefit wildlife habitat, ensure suficleM types of species
are present to cover a range of site condition, and provide adequate vegetation cover on more adverse
sites. These spedes, as well as all natives in the mixes, are compatible with the plats and animal spedes of
the region and are not poisonous or noxious. The spedes are desirable and necessary to achieve the
approved postmining land use. The introduced spedes proposed have been developed for, or used in, a
variety of agronomic situations in the western U.S, for many years and are well documented in the technical
literature.
Seeding and Plantinc Methods. Seeding of the permanent seed mixes will be done the first fall seeding
season after topsoil distribution. At the Seneca II Mine, seeding has been done as early as late August with
no winter kill problems. This is tlue to the insulating affects of heavy snow cover. Cover crops may be
• seeded at any 6me from late spring to the fall seeding season to provide interim stabilization as necessary.
The normal seeding season will run from August 15 to approximately November 1.
13-21 Revised 1/t5193
