TECHNICAL REVISIONS
The following items are revisions of the original permit application
for regular operations submitted by Standard Metals Corporation on
October 1, 1977:
(1) Seed Species Change
Grass seed species listed in the permit application Reclamation Plan
(Exhibit E) are those combined in one of two mixes, Alpine Mix or
Mountain Mix. See Appendix 2 for species common names. In order
to achieve a higher rate of success in the revegetation program species
other than those listed in Exhibit E have been incorporated into the
program. The seeding rate for these species will be 30 lbs per acre.
A technical revision to include these species in the Reclamation Plan
is thus submitted to the Mined Land Reclamation Board. (A list of the
species to be added to the present species list follows.) By inclu-
sion of these grass species, the total cost of reclaiming affected
lands as projected in the Reclamation Plan will not be altered.
(2) Fertilizers
Initial fertilization of lands having major disturbance was to be
carried out applying 200 lbs per acre of commercial grade Ammonium
Phosphate 16-20-0 as mentioned in the Reclamation Plan submitted.
In order to attain higher and more diverse nutrient application, a
different custom blended fertilizer 20-20-9 is now being used. A
technical revision to include this fertilizer with similar applica-
tion rates (200 lbs per acre) is submitted to the Mined Land Recla-
mation office. The cost per pound of this fertilizer ($0.10/lb) is
comparable to that of the Ammonium Phosphate grade previously used,
thus no additional cost will be incurred in the Reclamation Plan.
(3) Additional Affected Acreage
In its application for a regular operation mining permit, Standard
Metals Corporation listed 140 acres as the total acreage to be affected
by mining and milling operations. During the current year, 1978, an
additional 3.2 acres of land having moderate to minor disturbance has
been affected. The newly affected lands are divided between two loca-
tions, 1.2 acres at the American Tunnel portal area, and 2.0 acres at
the Terry Tunnel portal area. Geographic location of these areas can
be obtained by referring to Map 5 showing the American Tunnel portal
area and Map 6 , the Terry Tunnel portal area.
The additional acreage affected at the American Tunnel portal is a
result of excavating approximately three feet of topsoil from a surface
area covering 1.2 acres. The excavated material was used for construc-
tion of a series of three settling ponds at this site. The settling
ponds were constructed to reduce the concentrations of suspended
-8-
