Mr. Larry Perino - 2 - August 5, 1988
Terry Tunnel Area (pg 4)
2. The annual report notes that muds excavated from the Terry Tunnel
ponds were disposed in pits along the east end of the mine bench.
Furthermore, it is proposed that 1988 activities will include
establishing a vegetative test plot on the excavated pond muds.
The fate of the excavated pond "muds" has not yet been determined.
The Division's interpretation of the pond mud analyses differ from
those of Sunnyside Gold's; the Division contends that the excavated
pond muds require relocation to the permit-required disposal
location, i.e. , atop 'tailing Pond No. 3. The issue is scheduled
for Mined land Reclamation Board consideration at their August
24-259 1988 meeting; however, the Division encourages resolution
between parties prior to that time.
Contrary to Sunnyside Gold Corporation's April 29, 1988
correspondence, as submitted by Frank Bergstrom, the Division was
never approached, via Amendment No. 3 or otherwise, concerning
conducting vegetative studies on the pond mud materials.
Therefore, it is not recommended that vegetative studies be
conducted on the excavated Terry Tunnel Pond muds unless directed
so by the Mined Land Reclamation Board.
Monitoring Results January, 1987 to March, 1988
Surface Water (pg 10)
3. Table 2, Surface Water Monitoring Schedule for 1987, does not
include sampling of Boulder Creek. Please review the enclosed
"Monitoring/Reclamation Commitments During Mining Operations-
Revised June, 1987" which summarizes those monitoring requirements
committed to as a component of Amendment No. 2 approval .
Please include sampling of Boulder Creek in April and October each
year, as specified in Table D, pg 4 of the "Monitoring/Reclamation
Commitments During Mining Operations-Revised June, 1987."
Surface Water (pgs 16, 17, and 19)
4. Please specify the relative locations of site locations SCTP3-1 and
SCTP3-2, i.e. , which site is upstream and downstream?
Ground Water (pg 20)
Changes to Monitoring Program for 1988 (pg 37)
5. Table 4, Groundwater Monitoring Schedule for 1987 identifies
sampling of Seeps No. 1 & 2 Bedrock/Alluvium that once emanated
from the toe of the American Tunnel refuse/wasterock dump.
