Statistical sample adequacy will be tested during field sampling using the formula in DRMS
Regulation 4.15.11(2)(a). During field sampling for cover and production, at least 15 samples
(observational units) will be made at each site. Sample adequacy will be tested after 15 cover or
30 production samples are taken. Sampling may continue if necessary to reach sample adequacy,
or sampling may be terminated before sample adequacy is reached if an alternative statistical
method (approved by DRMS) can be used that does not require demonstration of sample
adequacy. Because dry- weight production data will not be available until samples are dried,
sample adequacy will initially be calculated on green weights of clipped material, then
recalculated later for air -dried material and additional field samples will be taken if necessary.
Reclaimed area cover and production will be compared to a standard equal to the mean values
measured at the reference area, as described below. Revegetation will be considered successful
if the mean value for the reclaimed site can be demonstrated to equal or exceed Q (Q =90% of the
standard). One of the four methods found in the CDRMS regulations in Rule 4.15.11(2) will be
used to compare mean values at reclaimed sites to Q, depending on the mean values and whether
sample adequacy was reached during sampling.
Reclaimed Intensively Managed Irrigated Pasture Revegetation Success Criteria and
Success Demonstration
The revegetation success standards for the Intensively Managed Irrigated Pasture (IMIP)
reclamation type will be based upon the "historic record" approach as described in Section
2.04.10 - Vegetation. During the pre - consultation meetings held with the CDRMS, they agreed
that three years of vegetation monitoring data would be sufficient to formulate the "historic
record" revegetation success criteria. As 'dile documented on page 34 of Permit Section 2.04.10,
data from the first monitoring period of 2009 vegetation monitoring effort were presented in the
original text of Section 2.04.10. Data from the second monitoring period in 2010 were submitted
to the CDRMS and can be found in Appendix 2.04.10A and the data from the third monitoring
period or 2011 are found in Permit Appendix 2.04.10B.
Given the proposed revegetation steps found in this Permit Section, WFC believes that the
Intensively Managed Irrigated Pasture reclaimed area should be able to attain a good level of
Section 2.05.4(2)(e) Page 21 January 2012
