Underground Injection
Page 2
The same beneficial effect that this adjustment in injection
methodology is expected to achieve cannot be achieved at the Terry
Tunnel due to the large horizontal distances involved between the
bulkhead injection pipe and the ore pass. Excess lime would be
expected to settle out before reaching the physical mixing zone.
This alternate point of alkalinity injection was anticipated in the
approved work plan and UIC Rule Authorization and SGC cannot
envision any circumstance where harm could occur because of this
program adjustment other than the financial cost to SGC. Because
of the shortness of the remaining work season at high altitude, SGC
intends to proceed unless notified that this technique is not
viewed by the EPA as appropriate.
Sincerely,
Larry Perino
Reclamation Manager
cc: Sarah Johnson, CDPHE
Wally Erickson, DMG
Send by telecopy with confirmation original
