INSPECTION REPORT - PAGE 2 <br /> FILE NO. M-77-378 <br /> DATE: October 16, 1985 <br /> OBSERVATIONS OF IMPORTANCE: <br /> 1 . The inspectors met with Doug Murray and Dave Mooty at the Silverton <br /> office. The technical revision and accompanying maps, outlining measures <br /> mitigating possible violations previously observed on site, were presented to <br /> the Division staff and deemed complete. The technical revisions contents were <br /> discussed and correlated with an ensuing field inspection of the American <br /> Tunnel , Engineering Building site, and Tailings Ponds Number 3 and Number 4. <br /> 2. American Tunnel Site, <br /> A. Refuse disposal plans include the construction of a diversion ditch <br /> above a rock drain from the toe of the present dump westward, draining <br /> into the south fork of Cement Creek. Metal will be segregated from <br /> other trash to be sold as scrap. <br /> B. Sludge resulting from mine water discharge requires removal from the <br /> four (4) ponds into which it has settled. Samples of mine-water <br /> treatment sludge are currently being analysed. Utilization of Tailings <br /> ------Pond #3 as a temporary' storage site was discussed. Permeability <br /> tesonalysis an approval of Tailings Pond #3 slimes are required prior <br /> to the placement of sludge at that site. <br /> 3. Terry Tunnel <br /> A. Sludge removal from the ponds at the Terry Tunnel will be disposed of <br /> in a similar manner as the American Tunnel sludge. It was mentioned <br /> that Terry Tunnel discharge may be drained into the American Tunnel <br /> discharge system, such that one water treatment facility could be <br /> utilized. A water storage tank within the American Tunnel was also <br /> discussed. <br /> 4. Tailings Impoundments <br /> A. Tailings Pond number 3 was observed for suitability as a sludge <br /> disposal site. Permeability test of slimes is required prior to sludge <br /> deposition. Drainage diversions above the ponds will be constructed to <br /> . divert water eminating from two springs downgrade of an existing <br />
