(Page 3) <br /> MINE ID # OR PROSPECTING ID # M-77-378 <br /> INSPECTION DATE 8/5/97 INSPECTOR'S INITIALS WHE <br /> Sunnyside Basin - Public access is controlled by locked gate at access road. Access road was well <br /> maintained. <br /> Washington Pit was snow packed. Washington Pit highwall was approximately 20' high with <br /> terrace bench at 10' level. Washington Pit highwall appeared stable. Talus slope above the pit <br /> highwall appeared stable. Reclamation backfilling and grading of the Washington Pit appeared to <br /> have been completed in accordance with the Act and Rules and Regulations. <br /> Sunnyside Pit highwall was approximately 30' high with terrace benches at 10' and 20' levels. <br /> Several portals, located within and adjacent to highwall cut, had been backfilled. Backfilled portals <br /> appeared stable. High wall appeared stable. Vegetative cover on pit floor was well established. <br /> Reclamation of the Sunnyside Pit appeared to have been completed in accordance with the Act and <br /> Rules and Regulations. <br /> Lake Emma Subsidence feature was evident. Operator stated that additional backfill material is <br /> periodically required as snow and ice, contained within the collapsed shaft, melts. Upland diversion <br /> ditches were evident for the subsidence feature. <br /> Alkaline Injection has been occurring at the Belle Creole vent raise, located between the <br /> Washington Pit and Lake Emma Subsidence feature. High pH alkaline material is mixed at the <br /> Howardsville Mill permit facility and trucked to the Sunnyside Basin area for injection into the <br /> American Tunnel mine pool. Public access into the Belle Creole vent raise is discouraged by locked <br /> steel gate, 2" line for alkaline injection was evident at the vent raise. <br /> Terry Tunnel - Alkaline injection at Terry Tunnel has been discontinued. Two sediment ponds were <br /> stable, no discharge. Public access into portal is discouraged by locked steel gate. Portal shed was <br /> intact. Minor seep discharge, < 1 gpm, was noted from portal. Operator stated that water seeps <br /> into tunnel, in front of the bulkhead, through near surface fractures. <br /> Mayflower Pond 1 - Reclamation appeared to have been completed in accordance with the <br /> reclamation plan and in accordance with the Act and Rules and Regulations. Backfilling and grading <br /> had been accomplished to provide positive drainage. Tailings cover had dense and diverse <br /> vegetative cover. Transplanted aspen trees, various grasses and lupine were well established. <br /> Outslopes of embankments appeared stable and well vegetated. <br /> Mayflower Pond 2 - Reclamation appeared to have been completed in accordance with the <br /> reclamation plan and in accordance with the Act and Rules and Regulations. Backfilling and grading <br /> had been accomplished to provide positive drainage. Tailings cover had dense and diverse <br /> vegetative cover. Transplanted aspen trees, various grasses and lupine were well established. <br /> Embankment outslopes appeared stable and well vegetated. <br /> Mayflower Pond 3 - Reclamation appeared to have been completed in accordance with the <br /> reclamation plan and in accordance with the Act and Rules and Regulations. Backfilling and grading <br /> had been accomplished to provide positive drainage, one small puddle was observed on top of <br /> capped pond. Tailings cover had dense and diverse vegetative cover.
