BUCKLEN EQUIPMENT CO
BUCKLEN EQUIPMENT CO PIT - ID# M -1982 -131 Technical Revision
No woody vegetation will be placed in the stockpiles. The mining plan proposed by the operator
minimized the removal of existing trees.
The operator has located the stockpiles in areas to minimize the handling to two times only. If the
operator does need to change the location of a stockpile, then the Board will be notified through
the submittal of a Technical Revision to the mining plan.
The operator will take appropriate measures to ensure the topsoil is placed in a stable manner to
eliminate slippage zones and sloughing of material.
The quality and quantity of topsoil for the reclamation plan is sufficient to accomplish the
proposed reclamation. The property is very fertile riverbottom land with a rich black topsoil.
Any fertilizers or growth media will be applied at the rates recommended by the SCS. At present,
the existing topsoil appears to have adequate capability to support growth without soil
amendments.
REVEGETATION
All revegetation will be done in accordance with SCS recommendations to achieve a diverse,
effective, and long lasting vegetative cover. The pond shorelines will not need irrigation or soil
amendments for long term reclamation.
The reclamation choice does not include either forestry or rangeland.
The reclamation plan will revegetate all disturbed areas with appropriate seed mixed to minimize
erosion, re- establish natural terrain and create usable recreation areas. Reseeding of the
property will be done after topsoil is replaced in accordance with accepted planting practices.
All grass seed will be planted with a grass drill equipped with depth bands and press wheels.
Seed will be planted approximately one -half inch deep and will be drilled between November 1
and April 1. The grass seed mix includes drought resistant varieties and will be planted either in
early spring or fall to insure germination.
Grasses planted in early spring should be warm season cover crops. The permanent grass seed
should then be drilled into the cover crop in early fall without additional tillage. Grasses planted in
the early fall should be permanent grasses and covered with straw mulch at a rate of 3,000 -4,000
pounds per acre immediately following seeding. The straw should then be crimped into the soil to
control erosion until the grass becomes established.
Seed rate mixes and ratios are listed on the table immediately following this discussion. This
information was provided by the West Greeley SCD.
If a significant invasion of noxious weeds occurs, the area will be mowed periodically for control.
Weeds will be mowed when they reach a height of six to twelve inches throughout the first
Page 6 of 12
