August 1999 Monthly Report
Page 3
• Tailings Pond No. 4 Surface Drainage Modification
This project was not active in August.
• Tailings Pond No. 4 Upland Groundwater Diversion
Discussions are ongoing with BLM to implement this project in exchange for an area to
place material from their Lackawanna project.
Cement Creek Diversion and Water Treatment
Following notice, Cement Creek diversion and water treatment was suspended on June 1,
1999. Sunnyside will evaluate whether resumption of Cement Creek diversion and
treatment will occur in September.
The August 1999 monitoring results for; dissolved metals in the AT-004 discharge;
Cement Creek (CC-1); American Tunnel flow before treatment (AT-INFEL); and
Cement Creek below the AT-004 discharge point (CC-20) are attached to this report.
Since Sunnyside is not diverting and treating Cement Creek, the reported values (CC-1)
are quality and flows for Cement Creek near the diversion.
Mainstem Stream Monitoring and Reference Point Stream Monitoring
Sunnyside sampled the reference point (A-72) on August 4, 1999. Results from this
sample are attached. BOR personnel sampled the other three gaging stations (A-68,
M-34, and C-48) in August.
The provisional flow at A-72 on August 4, 1999 was 584 cfs which places this sample
result in the high flow category (Q>300cfs). The dissolved zinc value for this sample,
obtained by averaging the results from two labs, was 237 ug/l.
