Public Notice
Bowie Resources, LLC, P.O. Box 483, Paonia, CO, 81428, has submitted a complete application
for a permit revision to the Division of Reclamation, Mining & Safety for its approved Bowie No. 2
Mine, mining permit no. C- 1996 -083. The proposed revision will allow the Operator to develop
access to the west under Terror Creek to mine the coal in the Bowie No. 1 Mine east pod. Coal will
be mined from federal leases C- 37210, C -27442 and D- 036955. These leases were originally part
of the Bowie No. 1 permit but by this revision appropriate portions of the leases will be incorporated
into the Bowie No. 2 permit. The Operator plans to access the reserves from the east in the Upper
B -Seam.
Five longwall panels with an east west orientation are proposed. The longwall panels are located
west of Terror Creek. The two northern panels are projected to be nearly two miles long. The
western end of the two northern panels are projected to extend under Stevens Gulch road and the
Pitkin Mesa Pipeline. The three southern panels are shorter because they are restricted to the
west by areas mined out by the Bowie No. 1 mine.
Three property owners are mined under by the western mine plan. They are Bowie Resources,
LLC, Turkey Track Ranch and land managed by the Bureau of Land Management. The northeast
corner of land owned by the Ivan W. Goodwin Revocable Trust could be affected by subsidence
although the effects should be minor because the overburden in the area is in excess of 1,000'.
The western mine plan will not affect any I and managed by the US DA -FS.
Most of the mine facilities are located north of Bowie Road near the town of Bowie, CO. A pump
• station, three sediment ponds, a coal mine waste disposal area and unit train loadout are located south
of Bowie Road. The Fire Mountain Canal is located south of the mine facilities and north of the unit
train loadout. The North Fork of the Gunnison River is located south of the mine permit boundary. The
proposed mine permit area is located on the U.S. Geological Survey 7.5 minute Bowie Quadrangle
map within the following sections.
