e
The status of this road and progression of the ditch should be visible in the many aerial photos taken prior
to and over the years of the mine life.
4. In completing the construction work on the Magpie Diversion you intersected a spring or seep on the
south side of the channel. You developed this spring with a 3 ft. culvert placed vertically about 8' into the
ground. From this culvert there is an 8" pipe installed to discharge the spring water 150' northeast into the
big culvert under the Monarch Fan Road. There is no flowing water this summer, but the silt at the
discharge end is damp. We are concerned about the water quality since we believe that this spring is
water being discharged from the original Monarch Mine. Our work digitizing the old mine maps shows the
spring is directly over the western edge of that mine; the vertical distance down to that mine is unknown.
w
t
5. There is now some silt deposition and down cutting for about 100 ft. into the park northeast of the Y
junction of the Monarch Fan Road and the road to the Monarch fan electrical disconnect which was at the
end of the powerline. This water diversion is the result of the water bar just north of the Y. Clean water
diverted onto the park is welcome, but down cutting and siltation is not. The next photo shows the silt
deposition, an area of down cutting, and the red vehicle on the Monarch Fan Road.
