July 19, 2012 C- 1981 - 014 /Southfield Mine JHB
Four -wing saltbrush, and Rabbibrush.
Throughout the portal area at locations identified on the 2002 Drawing 33 (but not the 101112003 drawing 33), the
inspector took points and observations at the areas noted on the map as shrub plots. Shrub clumps 3 -9 all had
numerous Four wing saltbrush plants as well as Rabbitbrush, though no obvious transplants. Throughout the
portal area perennial grasses were observed to be healthy and well established in spite of droughty conditions.
Blue grama is very prevalent, as well as switch grass, Western wheatgrass, Bluebunch wheatgrass, and Green
needlegrass. These are all species adapted to the site and the dry conditions.
Shrub plot 11 was on the west side of the RDA. This location correlated with a shrub plot identified on both the
8/2002 and 10/2003 versions of Drawing 33. The plot was approximately 0. 15 acres based on the on the ground
observation and GPS polygon. The inspector counted roughly 84 woody plants in this area. This rough estimate
calculates to about 560 woody stems per acre. Once again, this visual estimate is in no way a definitive shrub
inventory, and should be considered a rough estimate.
Shrub species observed in Shrub plot 11 included Four wing saltbrush, Ponderosa pine, and Juniper. This area had
thinner grass cover, but perennial grasses were present and the area was not eroding.
REVEGETATION — Rule 4.15 Vegetative Cover; Timing:
Refer to discussion of Reclamation success.
Only one knapweed plant was observed at the south east corner of the thick tunnel. Noxious species were not
present aside from the individual plant.
SUBSIDENCE — Rule 4.20:
Subsidence features south of the Thompson Ranch culvert have not yet been mitigated.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED
OTHER (SPECIFY)
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 1
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 0
Page 4 of 9
