July 17, 2012 C -1996- 084 /Lorencito Canyon Mine JHB
NECC will need to monitor these repairs until then to assure that they do not become weedy or begin to erode
again. NECC will seed the gully repair areas with the approved seed mix.
NECC was advised to submit results of analytical sampling to the Division. The Division has not yet received
these results. Please forward this information to the DRMS.
Gullies documented as having been repaired include; 2 gullies on the south side of reclamation parcel S -3
The gully on the east side of Pond No. 6 emergency spillway.
Several gullies on the SE facing slope of parcel W -1.
Several large gullies in parcel W -6.
Two gullies on the outslope of Fill 8.
One gully on the east side of Fill 8.
Several gullies on the lower slope of parcel N -2.
One Gully on the upper parcel of W -4
Several gullies on the east slope of C -1
Repairs look good at this stage and are in agreement with methods previously discussed. Two area previously
identified and potentially needing repair that NECC did not enact repairs were the north slope of parcel N -1 and
the south slope of parcel W -5. NECC evaluated the live perennial species establishing in the bottom of these
locations, and considered that these locations were self healing. The Division concurred but recommended
anchoring of limited wattles or other erosion protection material to break up the concentrated flows contributing to
additional growth of these features. Mr. Steele was in agreement with this treatment.
TOPSOIL — Rule 4.06 Removal 4.06.2, Substitute Materials 4.06.4(4); Storage and Protection 4.06.3;
Redistribution 4.06.4:
A small topsoil pile remains on site in the W -5 parcel. NECC had begun to use some of this material in the repairs
but found the salvaged pond sediment material preferred due to a greater amount of fines and greater cohesion.
NECC needs to provide the results of the alternate growth material analytical tests for the Division's evaluation.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED None
OTHER (SPECIFY)
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 1
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 0
Page 4 of 9
