electrical distribution center, and the water and sewage treatment
facility. All of the various primary facilities, such as the •
preparationldewatering systems (water pumping, coal sizing,
dewatering, and crushing) will be enclosed within a single modular
steel, painted building not to e~:ceed 100' x 50' The building and
modular components will be fab-icated off-site and will be erected
upon assembly of the components to be housed within the building.
The auxiliary facilities, except the electrical substation and
water and sewage holding areas, will be located in a second similar
painted steel building (Butler type) which will be 50' r. 80'.
9.3.3.1 Primary Facilities (Figure 4.2-3)
9.3.3.1.1 Pumping and Sizing
This facility handles the produced coal as it leaves the mine flume
system as a slurry. The coal Yias been initially sized through the
use of a conventional feeder-breaker underground to a maximum size
of 7 inches. The slurry wl~.ich is being transported from the
production face to the surface, is transported through an open •
flume system or a large diameter polyethylene pipe. From the
portal to the processing building, the coal will move through an
enclosed 30-inch (approximate) pipe. This will allow for travel
across the portal road as well .3s eliminating any spillage onto the
ground.
The dewatering plant (within the process building) has been
designed for the development operation as a closed loop. This
design may be retained during full operation as more information
regarding the coal and wall rock is obtained. The closed loop
design does not generate any coal wastes (Exhibit 4.3-3) All
solids entering the plant will go to any of the two coal storage
piles, and any effluent water recovered from the sieves,
centrifuges, belt press (filter), or static thickener, will be
recycled into the mine production system. All dewatering will be
NCIG - Coal Ridge #1
4-22 ABC/1145/910509 •
